Terrible 1 out of 5
Nothing works. I got the game installed, and all it ever says when I try to play is that d3dx9_35.dll was not found. How do they expect anyone to know what that means? I tried looking at forums on various websites, and none of them had any information that was what I was looking for. I have vista, but I also tried it on XP. Neither of them worked. I wouldn't suggest spending your money on this game.
Europa Universalis III 4 out of 5
This game has the fun incentive of playing with many minor regions in Old Europe, and not only with the large empires. The gameplay is not as advanced as in other strategy games but overall a fun and interesting game.
Best Strategy Game Ever? 5 out of 5
Europa Universalis III (+ expansions)is one of the best strategy games I've ever played. It's not so much about micromanagement as some other paradox games, but still gives a lot of control. The diplomacy system is fairly easy to pick up and keep track of. The military side of things is not complicated, but it doesn't need to be. Each country has its unique advantages and disadvantages making it fun to replay and try new things.
When I first started I thought the game would be too short because it goes by days and you can have them pass at about 1.5sec/day (or faster if you want). But I've been playing one campaign for about 20+hrs and have only reached 1484 (grand campaign goes from 1399-1821).
In my opinion it's one of the best strategy games out there and the expansions are worth it. After you learn the game you can play it at high speed for more intense play, or slow it down while you listen to a book or something. Play it how you want, it's an awesome game.
Paradox Comes Through Again! 5 out of 5
Europa Universalis, Paradox Interactive's trademark series, is given a great addition by this game. Being an avid Strategy Gamer, and owner of EU1, EU2, EU3, EU3 Complete, and EU3 Heir to the Throne, this game is a masterpiece. At a little of $7, you CANNOT go wrong.
It takes some getting used to, playing tutorials, reading guides, and the like.
I would recommend, however, if you are looking to buy your first Europa Universalis game, to start with Europa Universalis III, because it includes an Instruction Manual, of some 150+ pages, if my memory serves me correctly.
Then if you like it, buy this edition, which features the base game, and two Expansion Packs: Napoleon's Ambition, and In Nomine.
For a combined total of about fifteen dollars, you can't go wrong!
For those of you who have an older copy of Europa Universalis, I advise just diving into this one, as the core of the game stays the same, and it doesn't take much to figure out the new features.
I would advise the upgrade, though! The leap is amazing, added much more in depth country management, a new interface, a new event system, better timeline, much more customization, better troop balances, better "Graphics" more nation, bigger map, the ability to change government types, be in multiple alliances etc.
An Unplayable Mess 1 out of 5
I have three different computers, two running Vista and an older one with an XP operating system. The game would not install correctly on any of them. To make things interesting, the game crashed differently on each computer.
