Editorial Review

Bruno Bolet was the proud owner of the "Whisperer," a crystal skull rumored to protect its holder from almost any cause of death - except murder. When Bruno passed away, his nephew Henry came to wrap up his affairs, but he couldn't find the skull among the clutter of the creepy Bolet manor. You'll need to team up with Nancy's best friend Bess Marvin to find this mystical artifact before it falls into the wrong hands!

Truly enjoyed this game! Fun for all ages! 5 out of 5

I bought this game as an escape, which a video game should be. This game has great graphics. I enjoy video games such as this in which there is character interaction, as if I am in the game. These are definitely more enjoyable than the shoot em up type of games.
This one takes place in the deep datker corners of New Orleans and in a dark mansion. Nancy interacts with a number of characters in this one, as does her best friend Bess, which adds to the enjoyment. There are a number of puzzles and games to play, which contribute to the progress of the game. Nancy does trust a bit too easily, but that's part of the script.
I played the game once so far and am working on another play, as schedule allows. This is a somewhat difficult game, probably easier for the younger set, but it is enjoyable. There's alot of thinking to do some chores are tedious. There is a lot to explore on the estate. I wish there was more to the house to explore, as well as being to explore the cementary and New Orleans more. The sets are limited in this effect.
The puzzle you have to solve in Zeke's curio shop is the best one yet. Watch how it all works together in order for Bess to get in the back.
This is the first Nancy Drew game I've ever played, but it's not the last.

Fun Mystery Game - Recommended! 5 out of 5

"The Legend of the Crystal Skull" is a very solid entry the Nancy Drew series of PC games. We have all of them and the quality just keeps getting better and better. We play these as a family, ranging from thirteen to forty-eight.

Once again Nancy (you), with the aid of her best friend Bess, is tasked with solving a particularly creepy mystery that involves collecting glass eyeballs, hunting through graveyards, and, of course, finding the missing Crystal Skull.

The puzzles are clever, but not too hard for most players (you can look up solutions on-line if you get too stuck). The interface is intuitive and easy to master.

There are some darker themes in this one (murder, voodoo, graves, etc), but there wasn't anything too scary for younger players. There are also some very funny puns that might need to read out loud to younger players as well.

Recommended!

Creepy Fun 4 out of 5

In this mystery, Nancy's off to New Orleans to check up on one of Ned's friends, Henry Bolet. His only living relative has just died. Nancy thinks she is going to be able to just enjoy New Orleans and go on a real vacation for once, until she finds out she's got a mystery on her hands and a very scary one at that.

Expect an opening scene that makes you scream louder than you ever have before. This game is very scary in various parts. Not only that, the whole setting gave off a creepy vibe. If you get scared easily, you may want to try a different game.

I really enjoyed this game, the villain is not predictable at all and the game had a very cool twist. It keeps you wondering who the criminal is until the last second.

The atmosphere is very dark and gloomy. I really liked how it was raining the whole time. It fit the storyline very well. If you are looking for a lighter, happier game, I would suggest Secret of Shadow Ranch, Creature of Kapu Cave, and Haunted Carousel.

The puzzles in this game fit well. They were not too hard, not too easy, which is the way I like it because it makes the game just the right length. There was really only one part that I was stuck on, a skeeball game. I made my brother try and he beat it in a matter of minutes.

All in all, I really liked this game. It is deffinatley worth a try if you like dark and creepy things and don't mind a few scares once in a while.

Not too scary, not too hard. 4 out of 5

Now, you can decide from my title whether this is the game for you, as like I said, this game isn't that scary or hard. There were maybe 3 scary scenes but nothing like "Curse of Blackmoor Manor" and there were maybe 3 puzzles that took me a long time to solve, but nothing like "Secret of the Scarlet Hand."

Story-You and Bess are vacationing in New Orleans and while you're there, Ned has asked you to check up on a guy he knows. The guy's uncle just died, and Ned is afraid he'll get depressed or something. You go to the manor, get knocked out, and are forced to stay there on account of a rainstorm. So, basically it starts off scary, and the atmosphere is scary, but only two other scenes in the game are scary, and it took me a while to get one of them. Oh, another thing is that Bess stayed at your hotel, so anytime you want to "become" her, you call her via cell phone, and you change to her perspective.

Graphics-They were very dark, but at the beginning of the game it says to either turn off the lights or to play at night to be able to see the best. So, if you don't do that, it will be a little hard to see. The reason for this, btw, is because the electricity went out due to the storm and there are only candles lit throughout the house.

Sound-The sound of rain is pretty constant, and I found it kind of drowned out the music, which, frankly, I don't remember. I think it might be I don't remember because of the rain. But really I don't find this a bad thing. It made the atmosphere spooky. Just nothing else was spooky.

Gameplay-When you see the house when you are walking up to it, it looks huge, but there are only 5-6 rooms in it. When you're Bess you can go 4 places: a gumbo stand, talk to someone, a curio shop, and an alley. So there were really very few locations. Yes, Nancy can walk in the graveyard, but it's in third person unlike the rest of the game, and they aren't locations, they were just backgrounds. Mostly the puzzles are hard, but you'll get them in 10 minutes at the most. You might need to take a few notes, but just a few. One of the last puzzles is REALLY hard, this is what made the game long for me. You have to find 25 items to complete the puzzle, and it is really hard to find all of them. When you finish that, you are faced with a HARDER puzzle. I never used a walkthrough, but I spent about 2 days on these 2 puzzles.

Fun-It is a fun game, but it isn't as spooky as the cover looks. And the crystal skull may be the center of the story, but most of the story isn't about the skull. Rather it's more about finding the 25 items mentioned above.

Length-It took me about 5 days the first time I played this. The only reason being those last two puzzles. I took a star off because I wanted more length, and those puzzles were REALLY hard. Replaying takes about 9-10 hours.

Overall, this is a good game, but if you're looking for a really scary game, don't look here. I recommend this game to fans of the series, and to people who want a mysterious game without the blood, gore, and horror. Another thing that I want to mention is that this game has a bit of Hoodoo (a form of Voodoo)in it. It's never proven to be true or anything, but it is mentioned. So if you don't like that stuff, you might want to skip this game.

Not very well designed 3 out of 5

The game itself was okay, but it definitely didn't hold a candle to certain previous ND games. The bowling puzzle was the only maddening puzzle in this game.

The beginning sequence was quite dramatic. However, it was not animated particularly well.

When I was very close to finishing the game, I accidentally hit "save" instead of "open" while on the main menu. Believe it or not, it saved the main menu, thus erasing 4-5 hours worth of gameplay. I have honestly never seen a game save the main menu. Frankly, I'm not too sure why it even was possible to save the main menu. Since this same design was used in Nancy Drew: The White Wolf of Icicle Creek, I suspect also in that game as well as later games that it is possible to save the main menu and lose the saved game. Beware!

Since the game was rather long, draggy at times, and not all that intriguing, I didn't have the stomach to restart it, so as a result, I never was able to complete it.
