Loads of fun, but buggy 4 out of 5

Fun game, lot of features and ways to interact with the environment.

However, it is from EA and with that comes bugs. First, there are 3 patches for the game that need to be applied. Next, the final level you may have to tinker with as your system may lock up (custom built PC, I had to use the DirectX 9 Switch while launching the shortcut). Lastly, EA has some problem across all games with falling through levels (say, on a ship).

Thinking to far ahead isn't always good 2 out of 5

Well its ok to look to the future, but making a game so advanced that even most of todays gaming machines(mainly laptops) can barely run it comfortably at HIGH setting just seems a bit foolish. Much was the same when doom 3 was released in 2004, there was not a system(without building one) that you could just go out pick up and play the game on. It wasn't until nearly two years later machines started to pack enough power to play it on ultra setting. Crysis itself i think is a bit overrated, its a lot like the first Far Cry, only prettier, and a lot harder. Even if u put the difficulty on easy its still just to tough to recommend, either that or you should just sit and practice dying all day and get better and better. I'll take COD modern warfare 1 & 2 over this any day. The controls are very touchy, especially when selecting things on the keypad, you have to really know what your doing to select through the different power-ups in which there is no pause so you won't get killed in the mean time. Also the AI must have been super powered marksman from another planet, not matter how well you hid, how invisible you become, they still seem to be able to shoot you straight on in the face.

I think the psychics are nothing short of amazing and a lot of other games followed suit after wards, with trees breaking, buildings flying apart, and vehicles exploding after lethal damage has been obtained. The problem is, this game is just to overkill, and there is really no time to just explore a bit, and get a feel for the game. Your really just thrown to the wolves here, and you get eaten many many times before you get fed up. Everything is just so chaotic that it just takes away the natural pleasure of an FPS( for me at least), i like to ease into a game. Other than that like i said running the game on even a great system still doesnt give you the great frame rates you desire, unless you spend tons of money on a great gaming system. Even on a high end laptop if you play on ultra, the most i've seen is about 17 frames per second. And that was on the G73, which is suppose to be the number one gaming laptop on the market. That should tell you something. So as far as a laptop goes i really think it's going to be a long time even still before you get a system to run it on Ultra Setting to were its VERY playable. Even the SLI cards on desktops top out at around 27 on ultra. And around 21 on a few alienware. Thats just absurd. Well lets laugh when the second crysis burns up the PS3 and xbox 360, or its so watered down that it doesnt even seem like the same game. Why even release it on either, not sure? But i've seen it and the demos were so laggy that i pray especially for the Xbox version. Toasted! So if you have a system to run this game, go ahead, but i'm afraid after even a few hours (on a laptop) you'll be blue screening in no time flat. Good luck.

Awesome game, but it has its issues 3 out of 5

I loved Crysis. I absolutely loved it. For all the Call of Duty fans out there that compare everything futily to that series, I'll have you know that I did enjoy COD4 but Modern Warfare 2 is ranked number 1 on my list of worst video game story endings of all time!

That said, I don't think it is fair to campare the story of one game to the story of another in a review. Each story should be independent. Each one should be new and fresh. Crysis gives us a story that may not be a completely new idea but is done in a completely new and believable way. They cleverly give you the ability to be a one man army but for once they give a reason for it, the nanosuit. They put you in a very precicely paced story line that may not be the strongest story but is compelling and up to date enough to keep most people intrigued. The story ends with an amazing mixture of gratification and anticipation, although from what I've heard of Crysis 2 we won't get to go back onto the island and tear up aliens. But the story is of decent length and content.

The gameplay is phenomenal. I love the realism involved with NOT being able to carry every single weapon in the game at once. I like adaptable weapons. The vehicles are fun and refreshing. The animations and AI are pretty good and the environments are steller. On the bad side, I'm not a big fan of games that won't let you shoot your own team, becuase that just isn't realistic! And I love shooting my own team after I've played through a few times just to see what happens. Luckily, you can stack fuel barrels in a VTOL and shoot them! Problem solved! :) I love blowing trees over with grenades, shooting trees into pieces, and blowing shacks completely apart with fuel barrels and explosives. That is great fun and awesome physics. The ragdoll stuff gets a little wild though at times.

Graphically speaking, this game has no equal. The same can be said for physics as I hinted at in the previous paragraph. Having said that, we get into the first issues of the game. It is VERY power hungry. I was actually very surprised I could even play it on my original system that I installed it on. I had a 256MB video card and only 512MB of RAM. But it worked. I suffered a few crashes on occassion but I could play. I then upgraded video cards to another 256MB card but one that was more efficient, and I was able to bump up the physics and graphics to medium level. I was amazed at the difference. There truly is a large amount of room in the settings of this game.

Okay, so now for the downsides.

It has a little trouble launching. You put the CD in or just launch the shortcut and 7 out of 10 times it comes back with an error message. From other reviews I've seen here, that seems to be part of a bad anti-piracy suite although I'm not certain. For me it was just insanely annoying but I could still play the game.

The multiplayer is pretty much junk. I didn't give it too much of a second try but I played for over an hour and had no fun at all. It is confusing, slow (without the benefit of being very realistic), kind of boring, and then you get owned by some guy that for some reason has been playing it since it came out. I was really hoping for more based on some of the fun I had playing Far Cry on Xbox.

Then I upgraded my monitor to a 22 inch LCD. I love it, but now I have to lower the resolution a bit to one that is not in the correct ratio to get the game to run smoothly. I know I should upgrade my card and then I'd be fine, but that's not an option. So the game winds up looking a little fuzzy which ruins the amazing graphics. Nothing to really bust the game down for but it doesn't help either.

And now for something I REALLY don't understand. Apparently there is something installed on your PC that you don't know about and is more than just a little problematic. I can believe it but I can't comment much on it. I give that very little rating influence since I don't know much about it, but thought I'd mention it.

At any rate, I view this game as having a great story that is well paced and fun to play, with great graphics, great physics, and a much needed dose of realism in the game world while not making it boring or impossible. I don't fault too much for being power hungry becuase I think we all want the benefits of the work Crytek did to make it such a beautiful game with such great physics. I do fault it quite a bit for being buggy and having multiplayer well below what I consider enjoyable. So it's 3 stars instead of 4.

Say good-by to a paying customer EA: 1 out of 5

If you just want to play the game and are not computer savvy I'd say stay away from this game and this company (EA) because if something goes wrong with your install or it's anti-pirating software messes with your computer you...are...screwed. If you think you know your stuff then go for it.

Securom 7 installs with Crysis warhead. This Securom is installed covertly, is unable to be uninstalled without advanced knowledge of your operating system (see first paragraph), its not worth the hassle and I personally wouldn't give my money to a company that puts malware on my computer 'for pirating protection'. Hackers who don't pay for the game get to play malware/Securom free.

Don't bother buying a game with either Steam or Securom (DRM). Reviewers that say this DRM is 'no big deal' sound suspiciously like EA employees. EA wants you to pay to rent this game as you cannot resell Crysis. If Crysis didn't have DRM I WOULD GLADLY HAVE PAID FULL PRICE FOR THIS--as it is, I will find a cracked version and bypass EA's 'pirate precautions' and I don't feel bad about it at all. I hate companies that try and F#
Great Game, but it'll melt your cpu 4 out of 5

This game is awesome. Good first person shooter action, good adventure, good story, reasonably good advancement of enemies. The only thing is that it is very taxing on your computer. If it can't handle it, it WILL melt overheat your graphics card. I played the game on medium graphics quality, with a fan under my computer and it still lagged. And I'm pretty sure I did some permament damage to my graphics card. The bottom line: highly recommended, but only if you have a top of the line gaming computer.
