Editorial Review

In Nancy Drew: The Creature Of Kapu Cave, Nancy travels to Hawaii as a research assistant for Dr. Quigley Kim to determine why the population of native caterpillars has exploded. The Hardy Boys, on a separate covert operation, are also visiting -- and both stumble across the mystery of the Hilihili research compound and its evil vibes. Some believe it's linked to the legend of Kane Okala. Local legend has it that a long time ago, a man was sacrificed to the hungry volcano to appease it. Kane Okala, or "the rough-skinned man," later escaped from the volcano, but he was scarred for life with a rough-skinned and frightening appearance. When Nancy arrives at Camp Quigley, she sees a monster ravaging the camp, and soon discovers that Dr. Quigley is missing! Could the monster she saw be Kane Okala? She'll have to team up with the Hardy Boys to find out! One of the worst Nancy Drew games. 2 out of 5

I was very disappointed with this game. I played all of the ND mystery games and I'm a big fan. This was a short game and not interesting. Nancy Drew's assignment was looking through bug waste and counting and weighting whatever she found. The only thing I liked was playing as Hardy boys when Nancy Drew called them on the phone.

Not that bad 4 out of 5

Everyone seemed to hate this game, and I will admit that the puzzles were tedious, but I still thought that this was a good game.

Story-You got a free plane ticket to Hawaii in exchange for working with an entomologist (bug scientist) for the summer. When you get there, you have to rent your car from a man, and you soon find out that Frank and Joe Hardy are staying with him. You find out that they are doing a background search as a mission for a gevernment program that they work for (ATAC = American Teens Against Crime). You continue on to the bug scientist's camp and find it in shambles. Someone-or something-has torn the place apart.

Graphics-They were really great just like the last game. HERinteractive has really stepped up at this point with graphics.

Sound-You kind of hear a quirky style of Hawaiian music playing in the background. It's very happy and doesn't make the atmosphere scary at all.

Gameplay-Okay, there were a few changes. First, you are able to "become" the Hardy Boys whenever you want just by calling them. The first 1/4 of the game you can switch to Joe, and in the last 3/4 of the game you "become" Frank. The puzzles were really monotonous and boring in this game, though, and that is what took away from playing the game. I used a walkthrough for some of them not because they were hard, but just because they were horrible. I couldn't stand them! The Hardy Boys have to earn "money" in the game, also, so you have the option of catching fish and selling them or making shell necklaces and selling them.

Fun-Like I said the puzzles were NOT fun, and the stories could have been, but switching back and forth did get a little confusing, but overall, this was a fun game. Not as fun as others but fun.

Length-It took me 2-3 days to finish, and it now takes me about 8-9 hours (because I still use a walkthrough for the HORRIBLE puzzles).

All in all, it's a good game. The only thing is, it really isn't a fun game.

Better than expected 4 out of 5

After hearing all of the bad reviews, I was expecting something really awful. This game wasn't as bad as I was led to believe. I took a samll break from ND games because I lacked the time to play them, and when I started to catch up, I find all the new games with really bad reviews. Needless to say I had to think twice about buying any new ones. (But being the die hard fan I am, I couldn't resist. I have been here since the very first one.) I bought 5 for my kids for Chirstmas last year, and I WASN'T disappointed. They were just as good as the rest I'd played.

Any of you who have played very many of the Nancy Drew games realize some are better than others. You'll have a REALLY GOOD one then some that aren't as good. This one is certainly NOT on the BOTTOM of the list.

I think after a great game such as Curse of Blackmoor Manor you are expecting much more from the next game, and expectation is the death of gratitude. The only game I wasn't crazy about was the setting in Secret of the Old Clock, but I still enjoyed the game. I know there will be more good ones like Curse of Blackmoor Manor in the future, and I can wait for them. Until then I will be content to keep myself occupied with the others.

In this game I especially enjoyed the settings. (there are 2 main ones) The game, I thought, was very much in keeping with the other ND games. Making necklaces was fun and so was scuba diving. I also enjoyed seperating the "frass" and such from the samples Nancy collected from the jungle. And the transition from Nancy to the Hardy Boys was seamless. Great job guys, I loved that part too. I hope we see them again in future ND games.

I would definately recommend this game to anyone.

If you are new to Nancy Drew games I would recommend starting with #2 Stay Tuned for Danger, or #4 Treasure in the Royal Tower and work your way up through the ranks. Those are really good ones early in the series, and now you can buy them in bundles. You can get three or four games for the price I paid for one.

A little short... 4 out of 5

My favorite in the Nancy Drew series, Legend of the Crystal Skull. The most difficult, Curse of Blackmoor Manor. The Creature of Kapu Cave is an OK game. It seems like Herinteractive was maybe in a rush to produce another Nancy Drew game and they didn't really take the time to make this a very challenging game. The scenery was really nice. When playing a Nancy Drew game, I always make sure I have plenty of paper and a pencil. You will definitely need them. The most paper I used was Curse of Blackmoor Manor. The least-Creature of Kapu Cave. But, I can't wait for the next one to come out!!

Average game at best 3 out of 5

I have been playing ND games ever since..... This unfortunately was not one of my favorites. It was a quick play game as I completed it in one day. For the positive remarks, graphics great, no problems playing or installing (i.e. hate having to have the disk in drive to play!!), puzzles were fun and entertaining and not too difficult.

I like the idea of playing between Nancy and the Hardy boys. Characters were so-so though and the ending wasn't played out very well. There was many places that I expected to have to go but they were never a part of the game.

It was worth playing once.
