Great if you're a beginner! 3 out of 5
Some of the tutorials were a bit redundant going over virtually all the same initial steps. I was looking for more in depth... maybe some cool tips and tricks and what not.
wonderful book 4 out of 5
I loved this book, and the DVD is really helpful (I hate just reading if I cannot "see" the real thing)
Useful 4 out of 5
I bought this book not because I wanted to create "paintings" from photographs (really the purpose of the book), but because it was the only book that seemed to promise instructions for HOW to use the program, and it certainly does that--very well and clearly. I've found the book to be exactly what I needed. I now know how to do all the kinds of manipulations I suspected were available, but had no clue how to do. The only area it seems to be lacking (for my purposes) is in how to use selection tools in any more than a very basic way.
They are # 1 5 out of 5
Being a visual type of person when I received my copy of Painters 11 for
Photographers I went for the graphics, then the CD. It wasn't long before
disappointment set in. In the Addison file, the licensing agreement was not loading
properly and in Assets the second video would not open. I checked on the internet
and saw that there was a problem with swf. Files, that was at 1 in the morning,
by 4 I was interneted out. The next day I called the publisher, Fosal Press. There
was no one to help me but they took my phone #. I also e-mailed the Author,
Martin Addison. By this time I was slipping into new book withdrawals
because it was becoming very old very fast. I went back to the net for some
hopeful encouragement but to no avail. Then I saw my e-mail flag go up, it was
Martin. I opened the mail and he blew me away with his personalized assistance.
After that I knew I had a winner, it would just take time. We were still not there yet
so I went back to the net. Saw a lot of bad stuff out there about running swf. Files,
then the phone rang. It was the Publisher, Focal Press and in less than one minute
he nailed it, to low on the resolution. What a team, they got my attention. I know
who the Author and Publisher I will be looking for the next time I buy a book.
They are # 1 with me and I give them a 10 on a 1 to 5 scale.

Painter 11 for Photographers: Creating painterly images step by step 5 out of 5
The title of this book says it all. I love to take photos with an idea of using them in artwork, mostly fiber arts, and Martin Addison is an excellent instructor in the use of this photo enhancing program. I downloaded the 30 day free trial of Painter 11 to experiment with when I first received this book because the version of Painter that I had was much older. Martin's instructions going through many different applications step by step, were clear and complete and made it a joy for a non-techno type like myself to follow. I had great fun practising each technique on photos that were in the accompanying DVD and then again on one of my own photos. This latest Painter software is a terrific progam for this sort of work, and I did end up purchasing it. This is because "Painter 11 for Photographers: Creating painterly images step by step" made it so easy for me to learn.
